Wednesday, July 16, the participants to
the workshop on Political Participation in Africa organized
by the American Political Science Association (Apsa)
at the West African Research Center - Warc (July 6-27,
2008) had the opportunity to exchange with key Senegalese
political leaders on issues relating to transparent
political participation on the continent. Professor
Leonard Wantchekon of NYU and Apsa member introduced
the discussion. The guest political leaders present
during the session offered a good cross-section of both
ruling and opposition parties in the country:
" Dr Aliou Sow, former minister and current deputy
speaker of the National Party (Senegalese Democratic
Party - Pds)
" Dr Lamine BA, former minister of Environment
and currently chief advisor in the Office of the President
(Pds)
" Mrs Awa Fall-Diop,
former minister and member of AJ Pads politburo (ally
of the ruling party)

of Progressive Forces -Afp (opposition)
" M. Ibrahima Sene, prominent member of the politburo
of the Party for Independence and labor - Pit (opposition)
